This is our time! Our Democratic agenda to foster jobs, lower property taxes, engender diversity, demand a safer environment, improve education, upgrade infrastructure, and never forget those in need is as compelling now as it ever was. Yet, people are hurting today, to a degree that we never thought possible in our lifetimes. In the face of fierce opposition from those who would have us forget how we got into this fine mess, we must now stand firm and give no ground. We will fight because we know our message is right, we will fight because we know our party has saved our country and county from the poisons of disparity countless times before, and will do so again.

However, the fight will not be an easy one. Our system, as designed by our founding fathers, encourages conflict; that it should be embraced and never neglected. So we find ourselves today, as Democrats, having to defend the choices that our national, state, and local leaders have made in the face of extraordinary circumstances.

It is incumbent upon us today to broadcast with thoughtful discourse the good works our federal, state, county, and municipal representatives have fostered for the people they serve so diligently everyday. We must be thankful as a party for the electoral support we have received over the years, and ask respectfully for the people’s consideration once more.  We ask for these considerations not because we are entitled to such privilege, but rather for love of our community and the honorable call to public service.

Our party is in control in Bergen County, in no small part because we never give up. We have lost before and won before, but in the long view we maintain our relevance because we are the party of and for the common man. We pander not to those who are secure, but rather to those who seek to make, with meager means, a better way of life for their families; that is our true calling as Democrats.

I invite you to celebrate that calling with me tonight with thanks for your continued faith in our organization and the individuals that keep the gears of politics in motion for us. With your continued participation and support, we look forward to many victorious and happy days ahead. Finally, feel free to give of yourself and in doing so never fear to be wanting.  The party will be where you stand, always.
